The PayPal Fuss!!

This is indeed one of the most shocking piece of news; even worse for the Indian PayPal customers as well as for those non-Indian customers who’ve sent any payments to India after 1st Feb, 2010!
There has been no official information/announcement from PayPal yet; and poof! All the transactions to and from India are being reversed without any prior notification; here’s more…


If you try to contact PayPal support, they’re mentioning that if it was a personal payment, it has been sent back, as they’ve stopped this feature in India.

And, they’re claiming that business/commercial transactions, especially those in which ’shipping address’ has been specified, are being entertained. But, the reality seems to be far different…

Most of the customers who have business accounts and even have requested for money or raised money for services are being tortured, as literally every single transaction coming in, and going out of India, is being reversed; that too without any prior notice.

Can’t Withdraw Your Own Money Anymore

Apparently, Indian customers who’ve requested for any money withdrawal after February 1,2010 haven’t received their money in the bank account, but the payment status shows up as ‘completed’ in their paypal account summary. Everybody is puzzled as to where has ALL the MONEY in such transactions gone!!!

Upon contacting the support, customers are getting variety of responses from the support agents – some have even been accused of being involved in fradulent activities. And, that PayPal is carrying out a ground check against their account; so it may take up to 20-30days for things to get normal again.

On most occasions, currently PayPal telephone support team is advising their customers to be patient, and wait for 8-10days before they get an update.

Transactions Reversed; But Money hasn’t Come Back Yet!!!
Far worse, the biggest sufferers are those who’ve sent big amounts of money to India! Despite the transactions being reversed and PayPal notifying them of the reversal, they haven’t got their money back!

What PayPal has Got to Say?
There hasn’t been any official announcement yet; but here’s what every Indian customer has got as a standard reply from PayPal -

Hello ,

Your payment of has been sent back to the sender of the payment.

We reversed this payment because we have stopped allowing personal payments to be sent to or from India.

If this was a payment for a purchase of goods or services, and not a personal payment, then you may contact the buyer and have him or her resend the payment as follows: (a) click the Send Money tab, (b) select “Goods,” and (c) provide a shipping address.

If this payment was a personal payment such as a gift, then we have requested that the sender find another payment method until we restore personal payments to and from India.

We are trying to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and we’re sorry for any inconvenience.

If You Raise a Support Ticket; Standard Reply

Thank you for contacting PayPal regarding the recent payment issues. We value you as a customer and regret the delay in responding to your service request.

We’re glad that you’ve come to PayPal for receiving money. Unfortunately, we’ve had to stop allowing personal payments to be sent to and from India.

Any personal payments that have been recently sent to you from India have been automatically reversed, and the money returned to the sender.

If you’re receiving money for a personal payment, such as gift, then we have requested that the sender find another way to pay you until we’re able to restore personal payments to and from India.

If this was a payment for a purchase of goods or services, and not a personal payment, then you may contact the buyer and have him or her resend the payment as follows:

> #. Have the buyer log in to their PayPal account.
> #. Click “Send Money.”
> #. Enter their email address in the “To” field.
> #. Enter the amount of money they wish to send you, and choose the currency from the list.
> #. Select “Goods”, “Services”, or “eBay Items”, depending on the purchase.
> #. Click “Continue.”

We are trying to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and we’re sorry for any inconvenience.



However, reality seems to be quite different! All accounts – personal, premier and business, have been affected and all kinds of payments to and from India (even commercial payments for goods/services with shipping address) have been reversed.

Only time can tell what is PayPal up to, and what’s gonna’ happen to ALL the money under dispute!
