World’s smallest fuel cell unveilled! Pico era is coming soon!
Well guess what if you are tired of carrying big gadgets in your pockets, and curse the size of the batteries placed inside them, then here’s some exciting news for you! Yeah the chemical engineers at the University of Illinois have suceeded in finally developing the world’s smallest fuel cell!

This cell would measure merely 3mm across its peripheri, and obviously come with tremendous potential to outsmart the existing standard graphite and lithium ion batteries in our portable devices.
So you can be rest assured that the upcoming gizmos incorporating this cell, will be compact and pocket-friendly than ever before.
Moreover, another good thing about this small hydrogen fueled cell is its capability to store greater amount of energy in the same space than a standard battery.
Currently the biggest trouble in the manufacturing of the fuel cells, is the high production cost of the intial set-up, however this tiny fuel cell will again be superior to the existing ones at the tiny master itself comprises of a central chamber containing metal hydride. Around this there will be a thin, porous membrane, which would allow water to enter the chamber where it reacts with the hydride and forms hydrogen. As the hydrogen depletes, generation of electrical current takes place.
So sure thing, the nano-era is over, and pico-era is on its way, with this amazing invention!
