Microsoft Surface Technology: revolutionizing things with multi touch… codename Milan!!

Microsoft Surface is a highly sophisticated Multi-touch product from Microsoft.

It’s developed as an amazing combination of software and hardware technology allowing multiple users, to manipulate digital content by the use of natural motions such as hand gestures, and even physical objects. Microsoft Surface has been optimized to respond to as many as 52 touches at a time!

During a demonstration of Microsoft Surface, the marketing director of computing group, dipped his finger in an on-screen paint palette, dragging it across the screen to draw a smiley face and used all 10 fingers simultaneously to give the face a full head of hair!

It was featured on April 17, 2008, as a preliminary launch as Microsoft Surface became officially available for customers in AT&T stores and every one is now awaiting its exclusive mega launch!

Microsoft Surface is essentially a Windows Vista PC tucked inside a table, topped with a 30-inch reflective surface in a clear acrylic frame, with a projector underneath the surface projecting an image onto its underside, while five cameras in the machine’s housing record reflections of infrared light from human fingertips.

The camera can also recognize objects placed on the surface if those objects have specially-designed “tags” applied to them. Users can interact with the machine by touching or dragging their fingertips and objects such as paintbrushes across the screen, or by placing and moving tagged objects.

What’s more Microsoft’s new tabletop Surface technology, six years in the making, moves optical technology forward by combining physical and virtual worlds.

Microsoft Surface notes four main components being important the interface namely- direct interaction, multi-touch contact, a multi-user experience, and object recognition.
