Google should be unbiased…
Google recently took off BMW.de, the German website off the search engines citing that the website was using doorway pages to trick the search engines into leading the users to its website when the content is not related to the search words at all.
Lets get to the crux of the matter. Its a free web world out there. I have the freedom to build my page the way I want it. The search engine should be smart enough to differentiate between doorway pages from the legitimate ones.
The problem here in this case is, google has been tricked and the cover up is banning the German website. Where is the unbiased search engine that we all know? The right tactic by google should have been to build a stronger and smarter search engine which could differentiate the sheep among the tigers.
Marc Hassinger, spokesperson for business and finance communications at BMW Deutschland, said the BMW.de doorway pages only redirected users to relevant pages – for example, one doorway page that frequently used the German word for used car redirected users to a page about BMW used car sales. He said this was done so that German web users searching for a second-hand BMW car dealership would find an index of dealerships around the country.
We cant see a manipulation which they said was happening regarding those websites, Mr Hassinger said.
Mr Hassinger added that only 0.4 per cent of BMW.des traffic came from search engines such as Google, because most people wanting to visit the site either knew or could guess the correct address.
So, in all reality, google isn’t by any means a big source of revenue or traffic hits, but google wants to be in the midst of all action. Google just doesn’t block BMW website but publicizes in full force. All this, for publicity.
